The Upper West Regional Hospital in Wa has received a monumental boost in its capacity to deliver quality healthcare from the Learning for Lives (LfL) team of the University of Limerick (UL) and the UL Hospitals Group, Ireland with grant support from ESTHER Ireland grants. A container filled with assorted medical logistics was officially handed over to the hospital  which marked yet another milestone in LfL’s mission to enhance health delivery in northern Ghana.

Dr. Dominic Akaateba, a physician specialist who’s LfL local team lead and Country Director of Ghana Medical Help(GMH), reiterated the team’s commitment to bridging healthcare gaps in underserved areas. "This is the 4th 4ft container full of medical supplies that we’re giving out to the Upper West Regional Hospital in 3 years. This is part of our broader mission to ensure equitable healthcare delivery across northern Ghana. We are dedicated to empowering hospitals with the tools needed to save lives and provide quality care. We thank team LfLG, Esther grants, GMH and all who made this possible" Dr. Akaateba said.

The donation includes an array of vital medical supplies  aimed at strengthening the hospital’s capacity to handle emergencies, improve maternal and child health, and manage surgical cases effectively.

Acknowledging the donation, Dr. Robert Amesiya, Medical Director of the Upper West Regional Hospital, expressed deep gratitude to team LfL and all its partners. "This support comes at a crucial time when our facility is handling a growing number of complex cases. It will significantly enhance our ability to provide timely and efficient healthcare to the people of this region," Dr. Amesiya noted.

Learning for Lives-Ghana team’s track record includes supporting emergency care services through the training and supply of emergency medical kits to all CHPS facilities across the Upper West Region of Ghana from 2016 to 2019. Through these trainings and the donations of medical supplies thereafter, the team continues to address critical resource gaps in the healthcare sector.

The management of the Upper West Regional Hospital pledged to utilize the supplies effectively and extended their appreciation to team LfL and its partners for their ongoing support, which continues to make a tangible impact on the health and well-being of communities in northern Ghana.

Together, we are building resilient healthcare systems that leave no one behind.
